Good Friday (April 18) services, held the second day of the Triduum, come in many different forms in the universal Christian Church. Among them is Tenebrae, meaning shadows or darkness, which dates to the 9th century Church. Central to the service of Tenebrae is the symbolic darkening of the worship space to commemorate the death of Our Lord by extinguishing candles following Gospel accounts of the Crucifixion, death, and burial. The congregation departs in silence.
The Chancel Choir will lead the congregation in the singing of hymns that recount the events of the Crucifixion as well as share some of the most poignant Good Friday anthems like John Stainer’s “God So Loved the World” and Michael Haydn’s “Tenebrae factae sunt” (In the Darkness of Night). Service music will also include solos offered by Analisa Gallegos, David Silver, and Noah Taylor.
The Good Friday service will be broadcast at 7:00 p.m. on KSPI Radio, 780AM/94.3FM
