Report on Ukraine

February 4 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater is pleased to offer a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the humanitarian situation in Ukraine. Our longtime colleague in the Czech Republic, Jan Dus, is just back from a trip to Ukraine, and will share what he has learned and provide information about how we can engage and help our friends and neighbors in Ukraine in FPC’s Fellowship Hall, at 6th and Duck on Sunday February 4 at 5 pm.

As Director of Camino, Pastor Dus is uniquely positioned to give an on the ground account of what is happening. Camino is a Christian humanitarian organization legally registered in the Czech Republic. Its founders are, Dr. Anna Dusova and pastor Jan Dus. Camino was founded in 2022 with a twofold purpose – to provide humanitarian help in Ukraine and to organize tourist-humanitarian trips. To learn more about Camino, please visit the organization’s website: https://www.camino-zu.org/en/

Both Anna and Jan are members of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB), which has very close ties with Presbyterian Church (USA). Anna – a pharmacist – is an elder of the ECCB congregation in Policka. Jan is a volunteer ECCB pastor serving a number of congregations. Jan´s engagement with ECCB brought him to humanitarian work, which ended up in them founding Camino. Jan currently makes his living by providing genealogical research.

The purpose of Jan’s trip to the United States is to raise support for humanitarian work of Camino and its partners in Ukraine. Camino decided to organize this journey because of the current hard humanitarian conditions of the most needy in Ukraine. The situation is deteriorating especially now during the winter. Camino is a fully volunteer-based organization with no paid staff. All positions, including the position of Director are voluntary. All received support for humanitarian projects reaches those in need (Of course it means that Jan will be fully volunteering his time during the February trip to the United States.) A voluntary offering will be taken at the meeting.
